Co-Creating a Borderless World

Ms. Hirahara gave a talk entitled “Co-Creating a Borderless World”, in which she talked about the “Boundaries” we see in everyday life, such as nationality, religion, gender, generation, and job title, based on her own experiences.

Ms. Hirahara studied abroad in China, Canada, Mexico, and Spain from the second grade of elementary school, and when she returned to Japan due to family circumstances, she was affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. She has been active as a social entrepreneur with the purpose of “To creating a borderless world” based on her experiences of spending time in various countries during her childhood. Ms. Hirahara asked the participants, “What kinds of boundaries do you think exist in the world?” and shared her own ideas and actively encouraged the participants to share their own opinions. Her style was truly one of creating a borderless world with the participants through dialogue.

Ms. Hirahara, who is active as a social entrepreneur, used specific examples of projects she has created with individuals, companies and local governments in Japan and overseas to show us how we can dissolve boundaries through dialogue, rather than rejecting ideas. The participants were fascinated by her background and the way she has boldly taken on many projects worldwide.

After the lecture, one of the students who attended said, “Before the lecture, I was inspired by the theme, and after listening to the lecture, I was impressed by her story of growing up and how she turned her difficulties into opportunities.”

We would like to once again appreciate Ms. Hirahara for her wonderful lecture.
