Special lecture on cross-cultural negotiation

On May 26, we had a special joint lecture for the four classes of the first-year students Prof. Yuko Uesugi teaches.
We invited Associate Professor Dr. Fuyuko Takita.  She gave us a lecture on cross-cultural negotiation, all in English. Dr.Takita obtained an MBA and a Ph.D. while she was studying and working in America (Hawaii and the US mainland)for 15 years.  She has been a good friend of Prof. Uesugi for many years and now is a research collaborator. She currently teaches English and supervises international students at Morito Institute of Global Higher Education, Hiroshima University. We were fortunate to have four international students she teaches. They conducted a negotiation simulation exercise with our students this time!

Simulation Exercises

First, Dr. Takita talked about cross-cultural negotiation in a friendly and encouraging manner.

After the lecture

The students, without doubt, had “culture shock” in a good positive sense of the word.  For the first time in their life, they experienced cross-cultural negotiation, which was true to life.  Thanks to this precious experience, their motivation to learn more about cross-cultural understanding and negotiation in the future was greatly enhanced.
