Message

We are living in the inter-connected, inter-dependent yet so divided and unfair world now. Let’s learn, think, and act now to make ourselves suitable & survivable global citizens of the future.

Summary of the Research Undertaken

Looking into the effective means to mainstream gender as well as to strengthen engagement of affected communities in designing and implementing health sector policies in developing countries. Also articulating capacity development needs in order to realize such an inclusive development process.

Research Themes

  • Gender and human rights mainstreaming into infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria) programs and policies
  • Inclusive development / international cooperation policies
  • Strengthening civil society organization accountability and good governance via donor-driven policies and practices
  • Private-public partnership for effective global health responses
  • Policy/program analysis from perspectives of multiculturalism and diversity

Details of the Research

Reaching the marginalized and the vulnerable, as well as socially disadvantaged people and communities with much-needed social services continues to be one of critical challenges in the international development sector. Planning and operationalizing international cooperation and/or development assistance programs in recent years is shifting towards the inclusive one, under the overarching SDG’s theme of “leaving no one behind”. Yet such people-centered inclusive approaches remain rare in the global health sector mostly due to the lack of understanding and empathy from decision makers. With the background of working in the frontlines of the global health, my research focuses are around influences of changing aid policies and modalities of the multilateral and bilateral aid agencies on delivery of social services in developing countries, as well as how such inclusive aid modalities empower vulnerable people and communities as recipients of international aid.
Another research topic of mine is around the international aid conditions related to gender mainstreaming, rights-based approaches and community participation that may trigger changes in social norms over time. Looking at the emerging governance models for global health aid that are more inclusive, empowering and equity-sensitive, I am undertaking the documentation of lessons learned and contributing factors toward increased accountability among civil society organizations.
