Developing a Global Perspectives, a Journey at Eikei University of Hiroshima

Embarking on a quest to study international relations and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related subjects, I, TAMBA Augustine, find myself in the best place at Eikei University of Hiroshima (EUH). Currently, in my second year, I reflect on a transformative academic journey that has not only widened my intellectual prospects but also shaped my aspirations for the future.

Hailing from Liberia, I received a scholarship in 2021 after setting since graduating from high school in 2019, which opened the doors to pursue my academic dreams in Japan. The initial worry about language barriers and cultural disparities has now evolved into a profound appreciation for the rich educational environment EUH provides.

My academic focus centers on international relations and SDGs-related subjects, motivated by a desire to contribute meaningfully to global challenges. Despite the ongoing language challenges, my year at EUH has been a fulfilling experience, filled with academic consistency and personal growth.

Two enlightening courses have particularly captured my interest - "Introduction to International Cooperation and Security" and "Peace Studies." The former delves into global issues that demand collective discourse, mirroring the perspectives of international organizations. "Peace Studies class" encourages proactive thinking and problem-solving, fostering a deeper understanding of conflict prevention strategies.

A high point of experience in my academic journey so far at EUH has been participating in a Project-Based Learning class and collaborating with UNITAR Hiroshima. This endeavor involved proposing solutions to address the challenge of UNITAR's unpopularity among Hiroshima residents. Leveraging my past volunteer experience at an organization aiding orphans in Liberia, I am now honing practical skills by engaging with an international organization to tackle real-world issues.

Contemplating my trajectory after EUH, I am resolute in my commitment to further my expertise through graduate studies. The goal is to deepen my knowledge and specialization in international relations, paving the way for a career in an international organization dedicated to social and educational issues. I aspire to contribute substantively to improving communities locally and globally.
